Office of New Americans (ONA)

The Office of New Americans (ONA) at the New Jersey Department of Human Services provides resources, education, and support to new Americans and immigrants in communities across the state.

Available Resources Through ONA

  • Welcome Booklet - has information and resources that can support you and your family. This includes legal services, food and income assistance, health care and mental health services, school enrollment, getting a state identification card, and transportation.
  • Asylum Guide - has information on the process of seeking asylum for people who recently arrived in the United States.
  • Employment Authorization Information - shares information about Employment Authorization Document (EAD), also referred to as a work permit, that allows you to prove that you are eligible to work lawfully in the United States.
  • Know Your Rights - every person who lives in or visits New Jersey has rights regardless of their citizenship or immigration status. This page shares information for different situations to keep you informed on your rights. Fact sheets by ONA are for general information only and do not provide legal advice.
