Resources for Immigrants in New Jersey

The Office of New Americans (ONA) at the New Jersey Department of Human Services provides resources, education, and support to new Americans and immigrants in communities across the state.

• Welcome Booklet - has information and resources that can support you and your family. This includes legal services, food and income assistance, health care and mental health services, school enrollment, getting a state identification card, and transportation.
• Asylum Guide - has information on the process of seeking asylum for people who recently arrived in the United States.
• Know Your Rights - every person who lives in or visits New Jersey has rights regardless of their immigration status. This pages shares fact sheets, videos, and social media graphics to help community members and businesses understand their rights and responsibilities. Legal advice is not provided.
• Public Charge – provides general information and a list of available benefit programs that individuals and families can apply for that may not impact their ability in the future to get a green card. Before applying to any benefit programs, if you are unsure if Public Charge applies to you or a family member, please consult with an immigration attorney for free through the Office of New Americans Legal Services Program or a pro bono (free) legal services provider.
• Help for Immigrant Victims and Survivors – has resources and general information if you or someone you know has experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, or other crimes, including information about possible immigration options.

• NJ Refugee Resettlement Program - supports refugees, asylees, and other Office of Refugee Resettlement eligible populations in their resettlement journey in New Jersey.
