NJ 211: From Hello to Help
NJ 211 has a long tradition of helping New Jersey residents. It all began in 2002 when the United Ways of New Jersey spearheaded efforts to give residents an easy way to find health and human services—encouraging the Board of Public Utilities to designate the NJ 2-1-1 Partnership as the sole administrator of the three-digit dialing code.
Critical Social Services Referrals
In 2005, New Jersey's 211 system became available statewide. We've been assisting people—and growing—ever since. In fact, over the last decade, we’ve grown significantly. Today, NJ 211’s 150 staff members provide critical support and referrals to New Jersey residents, working with ten government and nonprofit partners.

The foundation of NJ 211 is built upon providing information and referrals for health and human services, positioning us to explore new opportunities while utilizing our expertise. The healthcare sector, for example, has emphasized the importance of social factors in the health and well-being of patients. We bring our services, expertise, and knowledge of New Jersey’s social service system to facilitate health and wellness—with the ability to connect patients to resources for housing, food, transportation, and other types of social services to improve health outcomes. It is new opportunities such as these that NJ 211 is pursuing. It’s exciting to see what the future holds for NJ 211.
