Staying Cool in Hot Weather
Throughout the warmer weather and if conditions arise that pose a threat to the homeless population, our staff is dedicated to updating our list of cooling centers. We will only include sites and messaging that we have received from official authorities such as state, county or municipal offices of emergency management. As we receive this information, it is posted. If you are not seeing cooling centers open in your county in the list below, it is because we have not yet received the information. Statewide Homeless Hotline
New Jersey residents experiencing homelessness can dial 2-1-1 for help. (Download flyer)
As the State's Homeless Hotline, we work in partnership with county agencies throughout New Jersey in an effort to ensure that those experiencing homelessness have a safe place to stay at night. We assess each caller to determine the appropriate resources to address their immediate need, as well as the underlying issues related to homelessness.
Those in need can call us at any time of the day or night, any day of the year. Services are accessible in different languages for non-English speakers.
If you live in NJ and you are experiencing homelessness, dial 2-1-1 or 877-652-1148.
Current Emergency Activations Due to Extreme Heat
