211 Service

NJ Statewide Call Center and Directory for Vital Services

The 211 Service is a statewide information and referral service for health and human services in New Jersey. It serves the public and many government entities and nonprofits in important ways, through its 24/7 hotline and extensive online, searchable directory of social services. In short, the 211 service connects the public to services and support for a wide variety of needs and broadens program reach for service providers.

What the 211 Service Provides

  • An easy-to-remember 2-1-1 dialing code that connects people to our 24/7 hotline that is free, confidential, and multilingual.
  • Referrals to resources that can assist with housing, food, healthcare, legal services, and childcare.
  • Caring community resource specialists who will listen, ask all the right questions, and help find the most appropriate health and human resources. Callers leave 211 empowered with the information they need to get the help they need.
  • An extensive directory of over 6,000 NJ government and community-based programs on our website, available in over 150 languages to reduce barriers to access.
  • Valuable reports and data dashboards for our partners that illustrate callers’ needs by location and demographics for informed decision-making.

Connections to Help During Disasters

During times of disaster, the 211 Service pivots to disseminate state-vetted information regarding preparedness, safety, shelter, food, water and other essential human services related to the disaster. Our website will post the emerging information and serve as the centralized source for finding help with basic needs. The disaster-related resources also serve government and social service agencies that serve the public. The connections to emergency and disaster relief services take place during both natural disasters (such as hurricanes and blizzards) and manmade disasters.

Valuable Information Source for Government and Nonprofits

NJ 211 provides data, reports, and dashboards of contacts by needs, locations and demographics for analysis, advocacy and action by our partner government agencies and nonprofit organizations. This enables government and nonprofit leaders to identify overarching trends and needs of its constituents for smarter allocation of resources and more proactive planning. We also post real-time updates on trending programs, an important source of additional intel.

We are always open to discussing how we can work together to serve more NJ residents. If you are interested in being included in our online directory or enhancing your program’s reach, go to our Update Your Listing page to provide your details, or complete the form below and we’ll be in touch.
