One-Stop Career Centers offer Help

While receiving benefits you are expected to be actively looking for new employment. You will also be asked to attend workshops that have been designed to assist you. Your presence at an orientation meeting is mandatory. Here you will learn about available services and training opportunities to help you become reemployed.

Some of the available services include career and vocational counseling, job-related training in demand occupations, veterans' benefits, and a self-help center, called a One-Stop Career Center, where you can use phones, FAX machines, photocopiers, and personal computers to conduct your job search. All available services are free.

New Jersey's One-Stop Career Centers are staffed with qualified professionals who can assist with obtaining employment or the training you need to meet the demands of our present workforce. These centers also offer educational training programs in vocational and trade schools or on-site at the One-Stop, on-the-job training with local employers and apprenticeships in many fields. In addition, Job Search Readiness Workshops provide information on how to successfully look for a job, conduct yourself in an interview, write a resume or learn about the local labor market. New Jersey Career Connections Connects Employers with Job Seekers

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development launched OnRamp for Job Seekers, a website to connect employers and job seekers. Calling it the virtual version of the 29 one-stop centers throughout the state, the site is easy to use and offers state and federal information in one place. OnRamp starts by helping you build a complete, detailed resume that includes the skills and experiences employers are looking for.

The site includes a job bank including New Jersey based opportunities as well as job openings within 50 miles of the state's borders. Also on the site is information about Jersey Job Clubs, job fairs and targeted recruitmentsoccupational training and programs offered by businesses and labor, opportunities for veterans, mature workers or 55+ communities, displaced homemaker, youth employment for those ages 16 to 24, ex-offender services, and assistance for those who are considering starting a new business, and professional networking details. The site also offers potential employers information about financial aid and grant programs and various hiring and training incentives opportunities.
