A number of options are available in our state for elderly citizens who need some level of care during the day. Programs vary and their appropriateness is dependent upon one’s physical and mental capabilities.
- Adult Day Care Programs are for individuals who do not need medical attention but would benefit from supervision for some portion of the day
.
- Adult Day Health Services were created for frail elderly citizens who need to be in a safe environment while their caregivers are at work.
- Residents with Alzheimer’s disease are eligible for adult day services specifically geared to those with that condition or a similar dementia.
Other home and community options for long term care are growing more popular over recent years and there is increased recognition that in many cases different levels of care are more successfully provided in one’s home or in group settings within the community with beneficial affects for elderly residents who wish to remain where they are rather than move to a long term care facility. For those in that situation there now exist options that will reimburse citizens who choose to hire and direct their own service providers.
Eligibility and costs for services vary according to a resident’s income and the amount of assistance he or she needs. New Jersey EASE (Easy Access Single Entry) is our state's senior service delivery system. Your best first step to finding out about in-home services is a call to New Jersey EASE toll-free at 1-877-222-3737.
